WHO WE ARE
In the Southern Hemisphere, at the bottom of Africa, there is a boutique body art brand making its mark…
Jaded Ink is leading the movement in making tattoo art an everyday form of self-expression, used as a statement of individual style. Equipped with the finest ink and tools, housing several award-winning artists, our goal is to create a personalised customer experience, by creating a meaningful mark that is just for you.
Nestled in the north of Johannesburg, a.k.a ‘The City of Gold’, Jaded Ink is perfectly primed in the capital of the country’s wealth and South Africa’s largest city, which also boasts a thriving tattoo and body modification culture.
Jaded was born out of a deep love for ink in the summer of 2008 by founder, owner and principal artist Jade Mclean. After studying fine arts at the AAA college of advertising and gaining over 16 years of tattooing experience, Jade decided to make it his life’s goal to excel in the art of tattooing, making it his sole profession.
Considered one of the most talented and well-known artists in South Africa, Jade specialises in black and grey realism, custom Chinese art, geometric line art and floral colour realism. His artistic influences include Van Gogh, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell, Rodney Mathews, H.R. Giger, Derek Hess, Dali, Robert Banks (Banksy), Paul Booth, Bob Tyrell, Nikko Hurtado, Eliot Kohek and a myriad of others. With an artistic background as diverse as this, with Jade, anything is possible.
Our History
Jaded Ink the brand, began in the summer of 2008 and first opened its doors to the public in early 2009. How we came to be in existence was through a bet over the poker table between Jade & Murray. The bet was, that if Jade won his next hand then Murray would invest in the business and thus Jaded Ink was born.
We started with just 3. Jade Mclean the owner, founder and principal artist. Murray Woolfson the business developer, co-founder and co-owner at the time as well as Kylie Serebro the artist/apprentice. Over time things changed. People came and went but still Jade stuck with the dream of being one of the best studios in South Africa and here we still are 10 years later alive and kicking!
In the beginning, with the help of friends and associates we had an opening tattoo fashion show to showcase Jade’s work. As well as educate the public on the art of tattooing. This was the first of four of our own events we have hosted and of the very many we have taken part in or been associated with.
From there we sponsored well-known local bands and musicians to get our name out into the public eye. Then onwards and upwards to sponsoring EFC fighters, drift racers, celebrities, motocross riders, radio stations, DJ’s, magazines, models and boxers. We have been interviewed on television on a variety of different shows, again proving that tattooing is an art form where really anything is possible and a great profession to get into as an artist.
One major principle of Jaded Ink is that our customers receive the best professional service and personal attention. A service where the customer is treated as a king or queen, particularly advising them on their ideas whilst taking as much time needed to design and consult helping achieve the best possible outcome. This leaves our customers feeling ecstatic, knowing that everything was done to ensure they are taken care of. At Jaded Ink you can rest assured that we pride ourselves in using the best equipment on the market and the healthiest of inks.
Artists with individual style and experience came and left. As is such in the tattoo industry! Technology and style are always being created or updated in the industry and so Jade gained experience from the various people he has worked alongside with.
This experience assures that Jade and Jaded Ink remain world class!
